A Remembered Sky
Eleven years ago, five satellites appeared in orbit, and every front page on Earth said the same thing: NOT ALONE. Now a vast dome is closing over the planet. When it seals, it will show a perfect replica of the sky. Stars at night. Sun by day. Most people won't notice the transition at all.
Lenny, a small-time operator with fifty-three years of good exits behind him, found a fragment of the dome lying in the dirt off a back road. Gun-metal grey, too light for its size, humming against his palms like the air under power lines. It was worth money. That was the whole plan.
Now the fragment is gone, a quiet American is asking questions Lenny can't afford to answer, and something has started following him that doesn't move like a man. The medication that seals the bleeding edges of the world is running out. Without it, Lenny sees things. A reflection in the mirror that isn't quite his, and a reflection outside the mirror that is. Hours that vanish between one door and the next. He's spent his life assuming none of it was real. He's starting to wonder what happens if it's the only thing that is.
